As a postpartum doula and photographer, I have the unique privilege of witnessing and supporting families during some of their most transformative moments. Recently, I had the joy of celebrating a very special milestone: the first birthday of a beautiful baby girl, one year after I was invited into her family’s home to provide postpartum care.
A year ago, I met this incredible family under challenging circumstances. Mom had just delivered her precious daughter and immediately underwent extensive surgery. My role was to support them through those early, tender weeks, providing care, encouragement, and a helping hand. Seeing how far they’ve come is truly heartwarming. Our session took place at the Elizabeth Park; an evening filled with warmth and joy, reflecting the love and resilience that define this family.
Mom was sweet and attentive, ensuring her little ones were comfortable and happy. She came prepared with snacks, stuffies and all the essentials. Her dedication and love for her children shone through every moment. Together, Mom and Dad's enthusiasm was infectious as they cheered and clapped. Their joyful energy had everyone cheering, including the littlest one who eagerly joined in with the biggest smile (and two little teeth peeking out). Big brother, calm and sweet, enjoyed riding alongside his sister on their stroller in between shots. His was gentle with his baby, making sure she was content and her binky was always close by.
Watching this family interact was a beautiful reminder of why I love what I do. It’s about more than just capturing images; it’s about celebrating the connections and the growth that happen over time. It’s about honoring the strength and love that families pour into their children, and the joyous milestones that mark their journey. On our way out of the park, mom thanked me for keeping them alive those first few weeks, and I assured her, that she was the one that did all the hard work to get to where she is today.
Happy first birthday to a beautiful little girl who is growing up surrounded by so much love and care. And to her amazing family, thank you for allowing me to be part of your story. Here’s to many more celebrations together!
With love,
Brooke
