There’s something truly magical about in-home newborn sessions. It’s not just about capturing a baby’s tiny fingers or the way they fit so perfectly in your arms—it’s about documenting your family exactly as you are, in the space you call home. The familiar creak of the stairs, the well-loved books stacked on the shelf, the tiny socks tucked into a corner. These little details? They matter.

When I arrived at the Wyskiel home to photograph their newest addition, baby Charlie, I was instantly reminded why I love these sessions so much. The air was filled with the warmth of new beginnings. Mom was gently wrapping Charlie in an olive green swaddle—soft and stretchy, the kind that hugs a newborn just right. Big sister Libby, still waking up to the idea of a new person in her home, peeked at me shyly from behind the staircase spindles.

We started in the living room, where the morning light streamed in softly. Mom and Dad snuggled up on the couch, soaking in these fresh newborn moments. Libby bounced around them, dipping in and out of the frame, showering her baby brother with kisses and playful nose boops. Then, the moment every parent hopes for—Libby settled in, proud and careful, as she held Charlie for the first time. Mom stayed close, watching over her two babies with so much love in her eyes.

And then, as all parents of toddlers know, patience has a limit—cue the impromptu dance party. Libby twirled atop the coffee table while The Lion King soundtrack played from Mom’s phone. A snack break was inevitable (Cheez-Its to the rescue), giving me a perfect window to capture some quiet moments between Mom, Dad, and their newest love.

We ended the session upstairs, in Charlie’s nursery. Libby, now refueled, nestled into her mom’s lap, setting up a read-a-thon with every book on her baby brother’s shelf. Dad leaned in, his eyes saying everything—pride, joy, a deep sense of love for the family they’ve created.

These are the moments that matter. The in-between, the unscripted, the real.
